Sucker Punch Make-up and Lashes

So… last weekend I saw Sucker Punch at the Imax theater… It was finally here, with  mixed reviews  but, I was very excited to see it,  so I reserved my tickets for the big screen days in advance.

I liked it….but…was a bit disappointed with the ending… the final scene. The “ending” that we filmed had you leaving the theater feeling  great singing “OOh Child”. It would have you  dancing,  getting a red devilish wig , crystals, rhinestones, more lashes and … ” nurse femmeBot, Joan of Arc and Arabian Nights” outfits.

I said in some of the interviews for the blogs and magazines, in fact on my interview for Make-up Artist Mag, I mention the ending had me in tears, and that the choices of the make-ups would have been explained…oh well, I didn’t know things had changed. (wait for the DVD)

I’m hoping that on the director’s cut the extra 18 minutes will show all those extra scenes…totally worth waiting for!!!

I have received so many messages and e-mails about the make-ups and lashes so I’ll will put up the make-up charts and I promise to answer all your questions…

The lashes we used were from Red Cherry, Eyemimo, and Ardell…

Originally I found most that I needed from  Red Cherry, the prices were great, BUT, after not answering the phones and emails, when we place a second order and failing to send the lashes within  the time we needed, I moved on  to other more accessible brands, at the end of the day, if you look hard enough, someone else is carrying the same lashes under a different number and name.

During prep I spent hours on the internet looking for the right kind of false lashes, some of them came all the way from Australia, Eyemimo had a great selection, after the original purchase of $200, they allow you to make smaller orders.

Here are some words from the lovely Carla Gucino:

“We definitely had so much fun,” Gugino said. “Rosalina [Da Silva] designed the look of the film makeup-wise, we did ‘Watchmen’ together as well,” she explained. “She’s amazing. But there was a point when she said, ‘Carla, guess how many sets of lashes you have on your eyes?’ and I was like, ‘Including my real ones?’ and she was like, ‘Yes.’ And we realized that it was four.”
“I have to say I had soooo much hair on my head and so many lashes on my eyes. I look sleepy, but really I’m just trying to hold them up.”

Enjoy!!!

Do you know how to store fresh Basil?

Well here it is…Basil is a  herb that can be used to flavor salads, soups, sauces and meats.  It especially complements tomato-based dishes like a boccocini salad….and good old pesto sauce…

The key to keeping basil fresh and fragrant for days (and even weeks) after purchase or harvest, is to not store it in the refrigerator. Basil leaves quickly turn black and slimy and lose their signature spicy sweet flavor when refrigerated. A better way to store them is in a jar of water on your kitchen counter top.
Fill a short, stout vase or jar with 3 or 4 inches of tepid tap water.
Trim the ends of the basil’s stems and place them into the jar of water (this increases the basil’s ability to take up water).
Keep the jar in cool place and out of direct sunlight…

In India the Basil plant is sacred to both Krishna and Vishnu, and is cherished in every Hindu house.
Just thought you may wanted to know….

Place the jar in a cool place out of direct sunlight. Don’t worry if the basil droops at first; it should perk right up after about 12 hours. Change the water in the jar daily. When stored this way, basil will stay fresh for weeks. In fact, if you leave the stems in water they will eventually root and you can replant them in a pot or out in the garden!

When harvesting basil from your garden, try to harvest longer stems (rather than pinching off a few leaves). Bring the basil indoors and immediately stick the stems into the jar of water, making sure to add more water to the jar if the end of each stem is not submerged.

If you purchase fresh basil from the grocery store, remove it from its packaging. Then, trim the ends of the basil’s stems and place them into the jar of water (this increases the basil’s ability to take up water).

    Argan oil Make-up Foundation

I’m at the end of the second week of filming, witch was suppose to be our only two “weeks of nights” but we all know it’s not true…after all it’s a movie about vampires, who are they kidding?

I’m “turned around” and comfortable working nights by now, the good thing is, the sun does “come up” around 7am and there’s no stopping it!!! The down side of it is: on Saturdays, my day off, I tend to miss most of it, and wonder why there’s no one, around midnight, to have “lunch” with? Morning coffee is at 4 to 5 pm and lunch usually about midnight on our film set.

It has been two great weeks,…

With much discouragement from our colleague Thom, we the girls, decided to go on a diet/cleanse for the next month. Coached by Gina we all came home on Saturday morning, with various canisters and bottles of Isagenix.

Today it starts, we fast for one day first….Thom reckons that the Hair and Make-up trailer is going to get very bitchy as we get more and more slim/ hungry…I ‘m ready for that with my hidden stash of dark chocolate, that will pop up at the first “bitch”….Everyone wants to loose 20pounds…I’ll document our progress as the days and weeks go by. Who’s going to be the weakest link? who will rampage the make-up trailer looking for the hidden chocolate?

For months now I’ve been using, blogging and  talking to anyone who will listen, about Argan Oil.

    Plantation of Argan oil...

Here are some of it’s properties:

Argan Oil is all natural, 100% organic. Produced from the Argan tree in the Marrocan Desert, is incredibly rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids,it has astonishing healing, conditioning and anti-aging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized.

It softens the skin, helps to minimize fine lines, great for the cuticles and other dry spots, elbows and heels as well.

It helps with acne by heal existing acne blemishes, preventing the occurrence of new breakouts and help reduce scarring.

So I’m loving the new addition to my make-up kit  (a few months ago) of the Argan oil foundation by Josie Maran. It takes on your own skin color, white, when it first pops out of the bottle as you blend it into your face it gives you an instant glow. The best of it is, you know, it’s  treating and nourishing your skin while giving you that amazing glow.  It comes in two shades, light to medium, medium to dark, adjusts to the skin tone, while shimmery liquid Argan Illuminizer ($28) is designed to give the skin a bronzy glow. A few dabs on the cheeks under the foundation for the added youth. I’m currently using it on my actors under the airbrush make up, is absolutely stunning!!!!

As we get older our skin looses most of it’s natural glow, say hello Argan Oil, and goodbye to your dry and dehydrated skin.

Selling at Sephora, (Josie Maran) and Finlandia pharmacy in Vancouver.
